La Maison sur le Port
Welcome to Dahouët, the port of Pléneuf Val-André, on the beautiful Côte de Penthièvre in Brittany. If you haven't discovered it yet, you will be seduced by the charms of the port, the coast and the surrounding countryside: if you already know Dahouët, we invite you to rediscover the region from our traditionnal home situated directly on the port.
Since the Middle Ages Dahouët has provided a harbour for the export of local produce (especially wheat and potatoes) and our address takes its name from the fact that, in 1510, the first cod fishermen left from here to fish on the Grand Banks of Newfoundland.
A small fleet of fishing boats remain; their daily catch is one of the pleasures of the Table d'hôtes. And Dahouët is now primarily a port for pleasure craft, welcoming visitors from everywhere in the world.
From our door, you are a few minutes on foot to beautiful white sand beaches. Or, if you prefer, you can take the navette (a free bus which operates during the summer months), a bicycle or walk along the coast to the centre of Val André (five minutes away by car or bicycle) where you will find not only the main beach but the Spa, the Casino and many excellent shops and restaurants. For golfers, the local course is a must; its view over the channel makes it one of the most beautiful in Europe.
Walkers will have many choices - the best known path is the chemin des douaniers, which goes past our door. If you have a bit more time, the back country is especially beautiful. We'll be happy to lend you a map (and a bicycle) and pack you a picnic lunch.
You will be amazed by the local heritage - the best known sites in the region are Fort la Latte and the Abbey of Beauport, but there are innumerable historical sites to discover: mediaeval chapels, walled villages, chateaux, farms and manor houses.
We offer four large and tastefully decorated bedrooms: two in traditional styles and two in 70s retro design. In addition, we have a small bedroom which can add on to transform your first floor bedroom into a suite for four.
At breakfast you'll be offered baguettes and croissants for our local bakery accompanied by specialty coffees, teas or chocolate. In addition, we make our own jam and special treats: muffins, crêpes or other fresh-baked goodies. If you prefer, we can also prepare fresh eggs, cold cuts, cheese or other savouries.
There are excellent local restaurants, but if you prefer you may wish to join us at the Table d'hôtes where our resident chef transforms fresh, local produce into classic, regional and international dishes. And we'll be sure to discuss the menu with you before going to the market.
